Honored to Share Rabina’s Story at Art Basel Miami 2022
What a blast! Being part of Art Basel Miami 2022 was truly an unforgettable experience and one that I’ll carry with me for a long time. We were deeply honored to be guests of the Dutch Embassy, whose support made our participation even more meaningful.
Seeing my work displayed on a 7 meter high monolith installation was surreal. Amid the vibrant and often overwhelming energy of Art Basel, this towering structure stood as a beacon, quiet, strong, and full of story. And at the heart of it all was Rabina.
Rabina is a character I created to embody hope, especially in the face of overwhelming challenges. Her story is one of resilience, born from real struggles faced by her community during a severe water crisis. This new video work, created in close collaboration with the incredibly talented Paul Snijder, brings her journey to life in a powerful, immersive way.
The installation gave us a platform not only to showcase visual art but to amplify a message, the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity. Rabina’s story is a reminder that even in the driest, most difficult times, there is always the possibility of a better future if we listen, act, and hope.
Art Basel Miami brings together some of the world’s most innovative and provocative voices in contemporary art. To have Rabina included in that conversation, and to do so with the support of the Dutch Embassy, was both humbling and inspiring.
